Latest Heads or Tails winner

A housing association accountant has become the seventh winner of The Independent's Heads or Tails competition – and he plans to share his £10,000 prize with colleagues who endured his incessant speculation about share prices.

Mike Powell, 48, from Surrey, predicted Friday's FTSE close to within less than two points. He answered four other questions correctly earlier in the week, including guesses about the share price movements of Sainsbury's and Next. He plans to use the money to take his partner, Diane, for a holiday in the Balearic Islands. "We had planned a budget break for a week, but can now afford to upgrade," Mr Powell said.

News of the win reached him on Friday evening when he received a telephone call from The Independent. "I'd had a few drinks so couldn't work out whether it was a wind-up," he said. "When I finally realised it was true, no one else would believe me."
