WHAT other event in European history has an important anniversary on 6 June? On that day 40 years ago the Eurovision television network was born with the Narcissus Festival from Montreux, Switzerland. Best known for its song contest, Eurovision also serves as an exchange mechanism for news reports and other programmes between 64 broadcasting organisations in 48 countries.
