Six 12-year-old pupils - four boys and two girls - from Shotton Hall comprehensive school in Durham are being treated in hospital for suspected meningitis, along with a 10-year-old girl from a neighbouring junior school. A 14-year-old pupil from Shotton Hall who has been confirmed as suffering from the disease was described as "poorly but stable".
