Two students were last night facing Christmas in hospital after one was diagnosed as suffering from meningitis.

A 20-year-old man has had the condition confirmed and is being treated in Victoria Hospital, in Kirkcaldy, Fife.

His friend, a woman of the same age, is in Aberdeen Royal Infirmary under observation. The pair are third-year students at Napier University, Edinburgh.
