Minister recovers from by-pass

Former French defence minister Francois Leotard, a prospective future French presidential contender, had a successful triple heart by- pass operation yesterday, his surgeon said. Leotard, 53, was elected last week to head France's Republican Party, biggest of several groups making up the Union for French Democracy (UDF), junior partner in the coalition government.
