Nigel Short, 27, ponders an early move in the opening chess game of his final world title eliminator against Jan Timman, 41, (Netherlands) in Spain yesterday. A bold sacrifice, described as reckless by watching grandmasters, brought Short close to victory, but Timman fought back to draw.
