Seven new Trident missiles have been ordered for Britain's nuclear submarine fleet costing about pounds 14m each, the Government confirmed last night.

Ministers had agreed to honour the previous Tory government's planned pounds 98m order for the nuclear missiles from the US, Lord Gilbert, the defence procurement minister, disclosed in a written reply to the Lords.
