Geoffrey Wheatcroft should read more Labour Party history before he condemns New Labour for "bureaucratic managerialism" and "bossy puritanism" ("Why are they so bossy", 29 June). He is describing no more than the kind of Fabianism which Sidney Webb, for one, so successfully espoused.
