Britain's biggest band Oasis are not splitting up, their record company announced today, ending 24 hours of rumour and speculation following the dramatic collapse of the group's latest American tour.

Noel Gallagher, the band's songwriter, flew back to Britain on Thursday night from Atlanta amid reports that the rift between Noel and his brother Liam, the lead singer, was irreparable. But, yesterday, the Gallaghers were at a secret location "spending time together and getting over jetlag", the statement from Creation Records said. It added: "Oasis will continue to exist and function as a band", but will not be touring "for the foreseeable future".
