Bristol is planning a pounds 98m "glasshouse" arts centre. The futuristic style of the Centre for the Performing Arts at the city's historic dockside would rival the Pompidou Centre in Paris. The huge building would have glass walls so that all four floors would be open to view.

The centre would form the core of a redevelopment plan at the city's harbourside Millennium site. It would stand alongside the proposed natural history media centre, Wildscreen World, and a hands-on science centre, Science World. An application has been made for pounds 75m from the Arts Council of England Lottery Unit.
