The committee of MPs which rejected calls for a ban on handguns was facing fresh criticism yesterday after it emerged that their sole specialist adviser was an arms importer. Former police superintendent Colin Greenwood, who advised the Home Affairs Select Committee on technical matters, also edits Guns Review magazine, which is running a vehement campaign against the Police Federation and opposition parties for supporting a ban.

The committee provoked a national outcry last week after it split along party lines with the six Tory members rejecting proposals by the Labour MPs for a ban on the private ownership of handguns.
