An inquest into the deaths of a family of five killed by lethal injection heard yesterday that police have launched a murder investigation, and that the case involved a "large number of anomalies".

Coroner Christopher Hodgkinson confirmed that Mahendra Karia, his wife Mayuri, 39, and their three daughters were killed by injections of potassium cyanide. The family were found dead in the lounge of their home in Southampton, Hampshire, last month.
