Marika Rivera

Marika Rivera, who died on 14 January aged 90, was an actress who although she was the daughter of the Mexican artist Diego Rivera, had little contact with or support from her father.

She was born in 1919 from her father's tempestuous affair with the artist Marevna Vorobieff. "When the child, a girl, was born, Marevna exhibited her as li ving proof of my infamy," wrote Diego, who spurned appeals to help his daughter. "For many years, [Marika] wrote me letters and sent me photographs in the hope of softening my flinty old heart. I never responded." He contacted his daughter shortly before his death in 1957, asking her to come to Mexico, but she declined.
