Dick Vosburgh's excellent obituary of Rodney Dangerfield [7 October] omits the comedian's highest achievement, namely his appearance in The Simpsons in 1995, writes Martyn Smyth.
He was cast as the nuclear energy magnate Mr Burns's long-lost son Larry, and his performance is Dangerfield all over; a warm, witty exercise packed with great one-liners, for example, when introduced to a somewhat demure young lady who had just "come out" that spring: "Jeez, put her back in, she's not done yet!" It plays as a superb dramaturgical dyad with the notoriously cold, humourless Burns Snr, and is widely regarded amongst Simpsons aficionados as one of the finest one-off performances of the whole series.
