The theologian William Hamilton, a member of the Death of God movement of the 1960s, died in Portland, Oregon on 28 February at the age of 87.
Hamilton was teaching theology at Colgate-Rochester Divinity School in 1966 when he co-wrote the controversial book Radical Theology and the Death of God. "The death of God is a metaphor," he said. "We need to redefine Christianity as a possibility without the presence of God."
