What a way to recover from the miming controversy.

After controversially lip-syncing the national anthem to a backing track at President Obama's second inauguration, Beyoncé was in need of some positive spin. Thankfully, her performance during the Super Bowl half-time interval on Sunday night proved that she's a stellar live act, and the show was made all the more special by appearances from her Destiny's Child colleagues.

Ah yes, Beyoncé, the one off The X Factor and whatshername.

Despite being capable singers, Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams were forced to sit on the bleachers for much of the band's career, watching on as Beyoncé took centre stage. Though it was a nice touch to invite them back, there was some speculation that their microphones were turned down in comparison to Beyoncé's.

And what about the actual sport?

The Baltimore Ravens beat the San Francisco 49ers 34-31. But the Super Bowl is really about the 30-second ad slots that go for £2.5m, the TV ratings and the ceremonial pomp. But the most talked-about part of this year's Super Bowl was the third-quarter stadium blackout, which stopped play for half an hour as the Ravens were leading 28-6. While not affecting the end result, it did stop the rout and make for a more entertaining spectacle. Yesterday, the NFL commissioner denied that the power outage was caused by Beyoncé's (perhaps quite literally) show-stopping performance.
