Maurice Papon, the accused Nazi collaborator, has pneumonia, casting doubt on whether his trial for war crimes will resume tomorrow as scheduled. Francis Vuillemin, his lawyer, said doctors had diagnosed pneumonia in both of Papon's lungs and recommended that the 87-year-old remain in bed.
However, there was no independent confirmation. Lawyers for the families of Holocaust survivors have previously accused Papon of faking illness in order to escape court.
