THE CURTAIN fell last night on the longest session of Parliament for more than 30 years. Both Houses were prorogued after sitting less than an hour for Question Time.
MPs, led by Speaker Betty Boothroyd, filed to the Lords chamber where the Queen's message proroguing Parliament was read by the Lord Chancellor, Lord Irvine of Lairg. Both Houses rose for a break until Tuesday when the Queen's Speech opens the new session of Parliament.
