Patrol escapes in IRA blast

The recent pattern of IRA attacks on the security forces in Northern Ireland continued last night with an explosion aimed at a security force patrol in Londonderry. There were no injuries. The device went off as the two-vehicle patrol passed. The explosion was close to a sports complex where swimming classes were being held.

The Royal Ulster Constabulary was last night holding two men for questioning about the IRA rocket attack on police officers guarding Belfast's court complex on Monday. David McKittrick
