Adele has revealed she was so upset after technical difficulties plagued her Grammy performance that she cried for most of the next day.

The singer, whose famous voice and iconic performances are usually fault-free, explained on Tuesday that technical issues were at the root of at the “out of tune” performance.

Viewers at home complained of hearing a guitar-like sound as she sang, which drowned out the 27-year-old’s voice. Adele's face suggested she was visibly aware of the issues throughout, which she later attributed to broken microphones on the accompanying piano.

She also played down the incident saying things weren’t all bad as she was heading to grab a burger following the performance.

However, during an appearance on The Ellen Show on Wednesday Adele said she cried “pretty much all day” on Tuesday.

“I cried pretty much all day yesterday. In fairness I would have cried if it went really well as well... I always cry. But I kept spontaneously bursting into tears yesterday. But it was alright, I’m fine,” she explained adding that she heard the odd noises and knew something was wrong “straight away”.

Adele also described how her increasing success has exacerbated her stage fright - but her performance at the Grammys has made her feel more reassured about future shows. “I don’t think it could go much worse than the Grammys now so I feel like I’m alright.”

She added that had the show not been live she would have made “the disaster my own” by stopping and cracking a joke but the experience taught her: “Next time I have any sound issues I am going to stop. I’m gonna say: ‘Sorry that's not working for me if we have time to do it again let’s do it, otherwise bye.’”
