Alice Eve accuses Bruce Jenner of 'playing at being a woman'

The Star Trek Into Darkness actress has since deleted the post

Bruce Jenner has been hailed for his bravery after coming out as transgender over the weekend.

Orange is the New Black star Laverne Cox said the Olympic gold medallist could well “save lives” with his brave admission, as men took to social media networks to paint their nails in support of his decision.

Alice Eve, on the other hand, didn’t appear quite as impressed by Jenner’s show of strength. She accused the reality TV star of “playing at being a woman” while he retained the “benefits of being a man”.

In a now deleted post on Instagram, the Star Trek Into Darkness actress said: “Nope. If you were a woman no-one would have heard of you because women can't compete in the decathlon. You wouldn't be a hero. You would be a frustrated young athlete who wasn't given a chance.

“Until women are paid the same as men, then playing at being a 'woman' while retaining the benefits of being a man is unfair. Do you have a vagina? Are you paid less than men? Then, my friend, you are a woman.”

After attracting criticism, she later replaced her deleted Instagram post with a picture of Harnaam Kaur, a woman who chooses to show off, rather than hide, the excessive hair growth she’s suffered all over her body caused by Polycystic ovaries, and one of David Bowie in his androgynous Ziggy Stardust persona.

“#EqualPay #EqualRights,” she captioned them.

“I'm not saying by identifying they are negatively impacting feminism,” she later attempted to clarify.

“I am saying that we have to refine the language on this topic so all men, women and transgenders are accurately represented in their process of self-identification. Maybe this needs a little thought.

“Thank you for engaging with me on this subject, because I felt confused and now I feel enlightened and like I know what education I need to move forward. I appreciate the time and thought. #smartbunch.”

“For all intents and purposes, I'm a woman,” Jenner told Diane Sawyer in ABC’s exclusive interview, ending months of media speculation.

“People look at me differently. They see you as this macho male, but my heart and my soul and everything that I do in life - it is part of me. That female side is part of me. That's who I am.”
