If there is one thing any waiter, waitress or bartender knows, it’s how much tips really can make the job a rewarding experience.

Amy Schumer proved this on Saturday, making one team’s night by rounding off a $77 bill with a $1,000 tip.

Schumer was attending a performance of Hamilton at the Richard Rodgers Theatre in New York with a group of friends when she left the generous tip, telling staff: “I’ve been there, I get it.”

The comedian’s reason for doing so was simple: before her big break, Schumer had waited on tables in New York. However, she was still the biggest tipper ever to grace a bar which has reportedly welcomed Beyonce, Jay Z, Kanye West and Michelle Obama, according to staff member Madeleine DeJohn.

“I was very touched, it was just something so generous and so kind that you don’t see every day,” Ms DeJohn told the New York Daily News.

“She’s been one of us. She reminded me that there’s still a lot of good in the world.”

The staff shouldn’t get too excited, however, as Schumer responded to their gratitude with some unfortunate news.

It isn’t the first time Schumer has surprised bar staff by leaving a sizeable tip.
