Ariana Grande and Ariel Winter tackle 'misogynistic' body shaming Twitter users for comparing both women

The Problem singer also took a pair of 'sexist' radio DJs to task during a live broadcast

Ariana Grande has tackled sexism and body shaming after being confronted by instances of both over the weekend.

The American singer and actress was invited to appear on the Los Angeles radio station Power 106 to discuss her new single, "Focus" on Friday. But questions from her males hosts Eric D-Lux and Justin Credible became increasingly gendered, forcing Grande to teach them both a lesson in parity.

First, Grande was asked if she could only use her make-up or phone for one final time, which one she would choose. “Is this what you think girls have trouble choosing between?," she replied incredously. "Is this men assuming what girls are having trouble choosing between?“

Their next question centred around their disbelief that as a woman, Grande could go “many hours” without her mobile phone and even enjoy a meal without picking up it up, with D-Lux and Credible telling their female listeners: “Ladies: learn.” An unimpressed Grande interjected: “Boys - learn.”

Her hosts then began quizzing her on her use of emojis, insisting that only women use the unicorn symbol.

Grande shot back: "You need brushing up on equality […] who says the unicorn emoji isn't for men? Alright, I changed my mind. I don't want to hang out at Power 106 anymore.“

On Monday, the 22-year-old reacted strongly to a Twitter user who criticised her body shape by comparing her to the actress Ariel Winter. The Modern Family actress, 17, recently underwent breast reduction surgery after being bullied and sexualised by social media users.

Grande reacted with an essay on Instagram criticising the misogynistic comments for objectifying both women.

Winter re-shared the post, adding: “We live in a day and age where people make it impossible for women, men, anyone to embrace themselves exactly how they are.”
