Bill Cosby has ignored the stream of sexual assault allegations against him in his first video message to fans since the furore started - instead reminding people to attend his next stand-up show, promising that he will be "hilarious".

Despite over 20 women coming forward since last year to accuse the American comedian of sexual assault over a number of decades, Cosby decided to simply release a video of himself telling an unknown caller: "Yes, I'm going to be at Wheeling, West Virginia Capitol Music Hall. 8 o'clock show, that's right. And you know I'll be hilarious, can't wait."

The video only lasts 10 seconds and shows Cosby wearing fuchsia-coloured satin pyjamas.

However, a note that accompanied the video did appear to subtly address the controversy that has plagued Cosby's stand-up tour in recent months.

"Dear fans," the note read. "I hope you enjoy my wonderful video message that's filled with laughter...Hey, hey, hey, I'm far from finished."

A number of Cosby's shows have been cancelled due to the sexual assault allegations, and some of the shows that have gone ahead have been marred by hecklers.

Upcoming shows in Ohio and Kentucky have been cancelled, adding to the four that were called off last month.

Cosby has not been charged in relation to the numerous allegations and the comedian has denied many of the claims.

The 77-year-old actor has been accused of multiple sexual assaults by a number of women dating as far back as the 1970s.

Cosby is being sued for defamation by three women and another woman has filed a civil suit against him. Lawyers acting for Cosby asked a judge last month to throw out the defamation case.
