The comedian Bob Mortimer is recovering in hospital after undergoing a triple bypass heart operation.

Mortimer, one half of the comedy duo Vic and Bob alongside Vic Reeves, had been due to perform in Glasgow next month for a 25th anniversary show.

Neil Reading, his spokesperson, said the 56-year-old will need "several weeks” to recover from the operation. The first leg of their UK tour has been cancelled.

Reading said in a statement: "Bob would like to thank his consultant and all the nursing staff at the hospital for looking after him so well.”

Reeves said: "I'm so pleased the operation has gone well and Bob is fixed. Many thanks to the surgeon."

Shows in November and December have been cancelled, but the pair are hopeful Mortimer will be well enough for shows in January and February to go ahead.
