A woman in charge of caring for Bobbi Kristina Brown at the hospice where she died was impersonating a nurse and now faces charges, police have claimed.

The 22-year-old daughter of singers Bobby Brown and the late Whitney Houston, died in July, six months after she was found face-down and unresponsive in the bathtub of her home.

A report published late on Tuesday by the Associated Press, claims that Taiwo Sobamowo, the nurse in charge of caring for the young woman at the Peachtree Christian Hospice in Duluth, was impersonating a licensed nurse with a similar name. She faces charges that include identity fraud and nursing without a license.

However, the report said there is no evidence that Ms Sobamowo’s alleged fraud affected the care that Ms Kristina Brown received

In a statement, Homestead Hospice CEO Mallie Sharafat said the company performed a background check and reviewed references from other health care agencies in the area. The company contracts with the hospice to provide care employees.

“We had no reason to believe that she was anything other than a good nurse with proper credentials,” it said.

“As soon as the credentialing discrepancy was discovered by one of our employees, we immediately took action and notified the appropriate authorities.”

An alert published by the Georgia Board of Nursing following Ms Sobamowo’s arrest, said she was fired August 5 when she could not provide proof of a licence.

Ms Sobamowo, 32, from North Carolina, was arrested on Sunday and is being held in a Raleigh jail on a charge of being a fugitive from another state. There is no record that she has a lawyer or has entered a plea.

Ms Brown was laid to rest in New Jersey in August. A gold coloured hearse carried a coffin containing her body to the Fairview Cemetery near Newark, where she was buried next to her mother. Among the mourners were her relative, the singer Dionne Warwick.
