A reporter with the ESPN sports channel has reportedly been suspended for a week after a video emerged of her berating and insulting a car-towing attendant and telling her to “lose some weight, baby girl”.

“I’m in the news, sweetheart, I will...sue this place,” Britt McHenry, 28, seemingly says in the footage, that was posted online.

Reports said Ms McHenry was angry about having her car towed on April 6 from outside a Chinese restaurant in Arlington, Virginia, and began insulting the employee when she went to pay to get the vehicle released - despite being warned that the interaction was being captured on security cameras.

“Yep, that’s all you care about, is just taking people’s money,” the Washington-Based Ms McHenry appears to say.

“With no education, no skill-set, just wanted to clarify that. … Do you feel good about your job? So I could be a college dropout and do the same thing? Why, cause I have a brain and you don’t?”

Ms McHenry later offered a partial apology, saying on social media that she had allowed her emotions to get the better of her.

ESPN did not immediately respond to questions. However, Josh Krulewitz, a company spokesman, said on Twitter that the reporter had been suspended for seven days
