Rapper 50 Cent has been ordered to go to court to explain pictures he uploaded to Instagram surrounded in money – despite his claims that he is broke.

The judge has ordered the 40-year-old, whose real name is Curtis James Jackson III, to explain several pictures the photographs posted since filing for bankruptcy.

“I'm concerned about allegations of nondisclosure and a lack of transparency in the case,” Judge Nevins said at a hearing in Hartford, Connecticut, according to the Wall Street Journal.

“There's a purpose of having a bankruptcy process be transparent, and part of that purpose is to inspire confidence in the process.”

In one image, which has received 155,000 likes, Mr Jackson appears in bed covered with bundles of money.

Mr Jackson filed for bankruptcy shortly before jurors were set to decide whether he should pay additional damages to Lastonia Leviston, rapper Rick Ross's ex-girlfriend, after a successful lawsuit.

The date of the hearing is yet to be decided.
