Caitlyn Jenner proclaims: 'I'm the new normal' in trailer for E! documentary I Am Cait
The former athlete discusses her gender identity in a new programme
Caitlyn Jenner - formerly known as Bruce - has spoken about the pressure women are under to look beautiful in a new fly-on-the-wall documentary.
Jenner, who has recently transitioned from a male identity to a female, speaks about the idea of "normal" and the desire to not waste her life in the E! programme, called I Am Cait.
"So many people go through life and they never deal with their own issues. No matter what their issues. Ours happen to be with gender identity," she says. "Some people waste an entire life."
"You go through all this stuff and you start learning... the pressure that women are under all the time about their appearance," she says while applying make-up in front of a vanity mirror.
"I never had it till a couple weeks ago - had a professional come in and do my make-up. What a difference."
The eight-part programme is due to air 26 July.
Jenner, who has for a long time featured in the wildly popular programme Keeping Up With The Kardashians, asks: "Isn't it great that someday you'll be normal? Just blend into society?"
She adds: "Put it this way, I'm the new normal."
Satirical pundit Jon Stewart mocked the media obsession with Jenner's looks, saying that people had wasted no time in giving her the same misogynistic treatment it gives everybody else.
"Caitlyn, when you were a man, we could talk about your athleticism, your business acumen," Stewart said.
"But now you're a woman, which means your looks are really the only thing we care about. Which brings us to phase two of your transition: your 'comparative f**kability.'"
