BUCKINGHAM PALACE

14 October: The Queen this morning visited the City of London School for Girls, Barbican, London EC2, on the occasion of its Centenary and was received by the Lord Mayor Locum Tenens (Alderman Sir Robin Gillett Bt) and the Chairman, Board of Governors (Miss Elizabeth Rodgers).

Her Majesty planted a commemorative tree before touring the school, escorted by the Headmistress (Lady France).

Afterwards The Queen opened the New Hall and unveiled a commemorative plaque.

The Hon Mary Morrison, the Right Hon Sir Robert Fellowes and Major James Patrick were in attendance.

The Duke of Edinburgh, Marshal of the Royal Air Force, this morning visited Royal Air Force Odiham, Basingstoke, and was received by Her Majesty's Lord-Lieutenant for Hampshire (Mrs Mary Fagan). His Royal Highness this afternoon visited Southampton Eastleigh Airport.

Major Charles Richards was in

attendance.

By Command of The Queen, the Viscount Boyne (Lord-in-Waiting) was present at Heathrow Airport, London, this evening upon the Departure of Princess Alexandra, the Hon Lady Ogilvy and the Hon Sir Angus Ogilvy for Hong Kong and bade farewell to Her Royal Highness and Sir Angus Ogilvy on behalf of Her Majesty.

14 October: The Princess Royal, Colonel-in-Chief, Royal Corps of Signals, this morning visited the 8th Signal Regiment at Vimy Barracks, Catterick Garrison, and was received by the Master of Signals, Major-General Archibald Birtwistle (Deputy Lieutenant of North Yorkshire).

Her Royal Highness this afternoon visited St Aidan's Church of England School, Oakland Drive, Harrogate, North Yorkshire.

The Princess Royal afterwards opened the new Health and Fitness Centre for Henshaw's Society for the Blind, Henshaw's College, Harrogate.

YORK HOUSE

14 October: The Duke of Kent, President, the Royal Institution of Great Britain, this evening attended a ceremony to mark the building's renovation, followed by a Discourse by Professor Richard Catlow, Albermarle Street, London W1.

Captain Alexander was in

attendance.

The Duchess of Kent this morning opened the new Accident and Emergency Department of St Thomas' Hospital, Lambeth Palace Road, London SE1.

Fiona, Lady Astor of Hever was in attendance.

THATCHED HOUSE LODGE

14 October: Princess Alexandra, accompanied by the Hon Sir Angus Ogilvy and attended by the Lady Mary Mumford, this evening left Heathrow Airport, London, to carry out official engagements in Hong Kong and India.

On arrival at the airport, Her Royal Highness was received by His Excellency the High Commissioner for India (Dr LM Singhvi), Mr David Tsui (Deputy Hong Kong Commissioner), Sir Derek Dodson (Special Representative of the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs), Mr David Scowsill (British Airways Regional General Manager Pacific) and Mr K. Wylie (Special Facilities Officer, Heathrow Airport Limited).
