BUCKINGHAM PALACE

23 July: Lieutenant-General Robin Ross was received by The Queen upon his appointment as Commandant General Royal Marines.

His Excellency Senor Luis Prieto- Ocampo was received in audience by Her Majesty and presented the Letters of Recall of his predecessor and his own Letters of Credence as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plentipotentiary from the Republic of Colombia to the Court of St James's.

His Excellency was accompanied by the following members of the Embassy: Dr Jorge Uribe-Botero (Minister Plenipotentiary), Senora Liliana Bonilla (Counsellor, Consular Affairs), Colonel Rafael Morales (Military and Air Attache), Captain Ricardo Alvarado (Naval Attache), Dr Guillermo Botero (Counsellor, Commercial Affairs), Dr Nestor Osario (Counsellor, Coffee Affairs), Senora Alba Zuluaga (First Secretary) and Dr Ghazi Farage (Second Secretary).

Senora de Prieto was also received by The Queen.

Sir John Coles (Deputy Under-Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs) was present and the Household in Waiting were in attendance.

Mr Justice Dyson was received by The Queen upon his appointment as a Justice of the High Court when Her Majesty conferred upon him the honour of Knighthood and invested him with the Insignia of a Knight Bachelor.

His Excellency Senor Luis Rafael Tinoco and Senora de Tinoco were received in farewell audience by The Queen and took leave upon His Excellency relinquishing his appointment as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary from the Republic of Costa Rica to the Court of St James's.

His Excellency Mr PLU Cross was received in farewell audience by Her Majesty and took leave upon His Excellency relinquishing his appointment as High Commissioner for the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago in London.

Sir Brian McGrath was received by The Queen when Her Majesty conferred upon him the honour of Knighthood and invested him with the Insignia of a Knight Commander of the Royal Victorian Order.

The Duke of Edinburgh, President, National Playing Fields Association, today visited the 'West Wilts 93' Show, Trowbridge, and was received by Her Majesty's Lord-Lieutenant for Wiltshire (Field Marshal Sir Roland Gibbs).

Brigadier Miles Hunt-Davis was in attendance.

23 July: The Princess Royal this morning visited Holy Trinity Church, Northside, Workington, and was received by Her Majesty's Lord-Lieutenant for Cumbria (Sir Charles Graham Bt).

Her Royal Highness, President, Save the Children Fund, afterwards visited the Save the Children Fund Shop, 1 Washington Street, Workington.

The Princess Royal later laid the foundation stone at the Westlakes Research Insitute, Ingwell Hall, Westlakes Science Park, Moor Row.

Her Royal Highness, President, Save the Children Fund, this afternoon visited the Save the Children Fund Shop, 17 Scotch Street, Carlisle.

Finally The Princess Royal visited Carlisle Racecourse.

23 July: Lieutenant-Colonel Nigel Lithgow today had the honour of being received by Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother, Colonel-in-Chief, The Black Watch (Royal Highland Regiment), upon relinquishing his appointment as Commanding Officer of the 1st Battalion.

ST JAMES'S PALACE

23 July: The Prince of Wales, Colonel-in- Chief, Army Air Corps, this morning received Lieutenant-Colonel Michael O'Donoghue upon relinquishing his appointment as Commanding Officer, 1 Regiment, and Lieutenant-Colonel Arthur Gibson upon assuming the appointment.

Later The President of the Republic of India visited His Royal Highness.

KENSINGTON PALACE

23 July: The Duke of Gloucester, Deputy Colonel-in-Chief, The Royal Logistic Corps this morning visited The Royal Logistic Corps Territorial Army Headquarters and Training Centre at Prince William of Gloucester Barracks, Grantham, Lincolnshire.

Major Nicholas Barne was in attendance.

The Duke of Gloucester, accompanied by The Duchess of Gloucester, this evening took the Salute at a Performance of the Royal Tournament at Earl's Court, London SW5.

Mrs Howard Page and Major Nicholas Barne were in attendance.

23 July: The Duke of Kent this evening attended the Tri-Service Staff College's 30th Anniversary Dinner at the Royal Naval Staff College, Greenwich, London SE10.
