Dane Bowers convicted of assaulting ex-girlfriend Sophia Cahill in 'glitter' row

Pop star Dane Bowers has been convicted of assaulting his ex-girlfriend Sophia Cahill after a fight about glitter resulted in the former beauty queen being left with a bloody nose.

Bowers, 35, denied assault by beating and claimed he was acting in self defence when he hit Cahill on the nose in the early hours of 29 January.

Cahill claimed that Bowers had launched an attack after she quizzed him about having glitter on his his face. She had previously stated that the couple would “not doing anything with other people” while they were living under the same roof, though they had split, and Cahill said she "jumped to conclusions”.

After pointing to the glitter, Cahill claimed Bowers grabbed her by the shoulders, threw her out of a bedroom and hit her in the face, giving her a bloody nose, before he pulled her by the hair and squeezed her throat.

The former Another Level singer told Croydon Magistrates Court that he accepted he had made contact with Cahill during a scuffle at the house in January after he returned home in the early hours of the morning, but maintained it was an accident.

He claimed he had been to a circus themed night-club the night before where he had tried to get a friend a job.

District Judge Andrew Sweet said: “I am satisfied that he assaulted her in the manner she described.”

“It was a sustained assault, causing her injuries, that took place in the presence of her two children. The charge is proved."

The judge ordered a report to be prepared on Bowers and warned him: "Bearing in mind the nature of this assault, it's an all options report, I'm not ruling out the possibility of a prison sentence."
