Demi Lovato has apologised for using Donald Trump’s lewd comments about women in a joke on the day Americans voted for their next president.

Lovato, an ardent Hillary Clinton supporter, tweeted on Tuesday morning: “Sometimes you just have to agree to disagree and grab some p****”, a reference to the sexist comments Mr Trump was heard making in a 2005 tape when he boasted to Access Hollywood host Billy Bush about using his fame to “grab [women] by the p****”.

However, the tweet was soon deleted after prompting anger, leading Lovato to apologise.

However, some of her fans sent her messages of support after the apology saying she need not have apologised and had a right to mock the election.
