Donald Trump trolls Colin Montgomerie without realising after praising golfer for making 'winning majors look easy'
Montgomerie has not managed to win a major championship during his career, though it appears Trump has failed to notice
Donald Trump appears to have trolled Colin Montgomerie completely by accident after praising the Scottish golfer for making “winning MAJORS look easy”, despite infamously failing to win a major throughout his career.
Montgomerie came close to an elusive win on a number of occasions, having finished second at The Open in 2005, the PGA Championship in 1995 and at the US Open on three separate tournaments in 1994, 1997 and 2006.
Despite the 52-year-old missing out on a major championship, he remains one of the most successful British golfers to have played the game, winning the European Tour Order of Merit eight times, but it appears that the United States politician hasn’t done his research when it comes to Montgomerie’s record.
After Montgomerie posted a picture of himself at the Trump Turnberry course in South Ayrshire, Trump replied to praise the golfer but made the rather comical gaffe that left him (once again) looking rather foolish.
Trump wrote on Twitter: “Colin, great to have you at Trump Turnberry. So proud of you and your GREAT playing! You made winning MAJORS look easy!”
Montgomerie’s initial post read: “Today with Dad @TrumpTurnberry Best Links Course in Britain Ailsa Course opens early June '16 Can't wait to play it.”
People who will flee America if Donald Trump wins
