Australian soaps aren’t perhaps the first place one would expect an Oscar-winning actor to draw inspiration from.

But Eddie Redmayne never-the-less chose two of his favourite Neighbours stars to thank for helping him gain his first ever Academy Award - Alan Fletcher (Dr Karl Kennedy) and Jackie Woodburne (Susan Kennedy).

“I think they’re amazing,” Redmayne apparently told News.com.au after his win.

“I’m a huge fan of them from old. I’ve learnt a lot from them from watching them daily.”

Woodburne so moved by Redmayne’s praise, she later responded.

“It’s always wonderful when someone compliments your work,” she said, “but to have such lovely things said from such an incredibly talented actor is very humbling and means more to me than he will ever know.”

“To receive such generous praise from an actor of Eddie Redmayne’s startling ability and status has been thrilling for both of us,” Fletcher added.

“It never ceases to excite me to hear examples of the influence Neighbours has had beyond Australia. And congratulations Eddie for the recognition of your wonderful performance in The Theory of Everything.”

Which is probably the strangest thing Redmayne has done since he admitted this about his regarding Nahla from the Lion King and his sexual awakening:
