Jackie Chan's son Jaycee released from jail in China after drugs charge

The son of kung fu movie star Jackie Chan was released from jail in Beijing on Friday after serving a six-month sentence on drug charges

Jaycee Chan has been released from Checheng jail after being imprisoned on drug charges.

Chan was charged with “the crime of sheltering others to take drugs” in December 2014 after testing positive for marijuana, with police saying they found 100 grams of the drug in his apartment. He pleaded guilty.

The 32-year-old singer and actor is a high-profile case in the government's aggressive anti-drugs campaign.

Chan was released having completed his sentence, which factored in the time he'd already served since he was detained in August 2014.

Chan's entertainment company released a statement thanking fans and the press for their concern. Chan will hold a news conference on Saturday to “apologize and explain”, it added.

Chinese state media reported that his father Jackie Chan felt ashamed of the incident and hopes that he will talk about the dangers of drug abuse in the future.

Jackie Chan had served as a goodwill spokesman for the China National Anti-Drug Committee in 2009, which promoted anti-drug education.
