The family of a former BBC journalist found dead at a Turkish airport have said they believed she acted alone and was not murdered.

Jacky Sutton, 50, who was working for the Institute for War and Peace Reporting (IWPR) was found hanged in a toilet at Istanbul’s Ataturk airport. She had flown there to catch a connecting flight to Irbil in northern Iraq where she was working.

Many friends expressed grave doubts about the circumstances surrounding her death. Her sister and a member of IWPR flew to Turkey to speak to investigators.

The dead woman’s family and the IWPR said they had reached the preliminary conclusion no other parties were involved in her death.

“The family is satisfied with the investigation undertaken by the Turkish authorities,” said Jenny Sutton, Jacky’s sister. “Based on the evidence we have seen, we believe that Jacky acted alone.”

IWPR and Ms Sutton’s family said they had seen CCTV footage with no apparent time gaps, still photographs and witness statements. There was no indication of theft or of any missing belongings.
