James May appears to be struggling to fill the void left by Top Gear after Jeremy Clarkson was dropped from the show.

Clarkson was sacked over what the BBC described as an “unprovoked physical attack” on producer Oisin Tymon.

Filming for the motoring series was postponed while the BBC investigated the ‘fracas’ between Clarkson and Tymon.

A disgruntled May has been vocal about his displeasure at not working on Top Gear in the weeks after Clarkson was suspended, tweeting mundane updates with the hashtag #stillunemployed.

His latest offerings include "blues lyrics" and musical performances.

After tweeting about changing lightbulbs and fixing “difficult cupboards” he has also started his own ‘unemployment’ channel on YouTube.

The 52-year-old is now filling his time by learning the recorder and on Saturday uploaded a rendition of Greensleeves “with a hangover”. One performance ends with May despondently adding: “I’m here for the rest of my life folks.”

A description for the video reads: “Performed by the jobless James May 'pon the descant recorder.”

The director general Tony Hall said the corporation would continue Top Gear without Clarkson, but May has hinted he too may follow his controversial co-host's departure from the show when he said “it would require a lot of careful thought” about whether to continue presenting without him.

“I think we’re very much the three of us as a package, it works for very complicated reasons that a lot of people don’t fully understand,” he told Sky News earlier in the week.
