Jennifer Hudson’s family has once again been plagued by violence.

The Oscar-winning actress and singer’s half-brother, Steven Simpson, was arrested this week for allegedly stabbing a man repeatedly in the face in a frenzied attack.

The victim was thought to have been in a relationship with Simpson’s estranged wife.

Simpson is currently in custody in Paw Paw, Michigan, where it is expected he will be charged with attempted murder and home invasion, or trespassing.

The latest traumatic incident comes almost six years after Hudson’s 57-year-old mother Darnell Donnerson, her 29-year-old brother Jason Hudson and her seven-year-old nephew Julian King were brutally murdered by William Balfour, the former husband of her sister Julia, in October 2008.

Balfour was later handed three consecutive life sentences after he was charged with three counts of first-degree murder.

Hudson had, that same year, won an Academy Award, a Golden Globe and a BAFTA for her performance as Effie White, starring opposite Beyoncé in Diana Ross biopic Dream Girls. She had also released her debut album.

A year later, she unveiled The Hudson-King Foundation for Families of Slain Victims, which raises money for the bereaved.

Hudson is yet to comment publicly on the arrest of her half-brother.

She is set to release her new album, JHud, next month.
