Johnny Depp waxes lyrical about fiancé Amber Heard following engagement confirmation

The actor opens up about the charms of his bride-to-be

He’s usually very secretive about his private life, but Amber Heard has had an impressive impact on Johnny Depp.

The Pirates of the Caribbean star confirmed their engagement earlier this week, when he attended a press conference wearing what he described as a ‘chick ring’ on his wedding finger – a huge, feminine sparkling band. He said himself that the unconventional move was a “dead giveaway” and “not very subtle” – a far cry from his rumoured engagement with his former partner of 14 years, Vanessa Paradis, whom he never confirmed he planned to marry. He explained that he wears the ring "because it fit. It was too big for my girl."

So what of Heard’s seemingly irresistible charms?

“She's a wonderful girl,” he said of his 27-year-old fiancé on the David Letterman show. “She's sharp as a tack. A southern belle and sweet as can be, and very good for me.”

The couple met on the set of their 2011, The Rum Diary, and reportedly started dating a year later. He won’t be heavily organised in the organisational aspect of the wedding.

“I think that I would be better at making women's shoes than I would be at wedding planning, I can't plan anything. I'm really bad at that stuff,” he said.

Depp announced his split from Paradis in June 2012. They have two children, Lily-Rose and Jack.
