Jonathan Rhys Meyers reassures fans after worrying pictures of him looking dishevelled and holding a bottle of vodka appear
Actor came to fame in 2002 film Bend It Like Beckham
Jonathan Rhys Meyers has apologised to fans for a “minor relapse” after worrying photographs emerged of him appearing dishevelled and holding a bottle of vodka on the streets.
Meyers' apology, posted on fiancé Martha Lane’s Instagram account, shows the 37-year-old actor in a selfie with Lane and reads “Wishing you a lovely day and rest of week. With Love, J&M”.
Earlier this month upsetting photographs emerged that appeared to show a dishevelled Meyers on the streets of London holding a partially empty vodka bottle.
The online message is the second message from the actor attempting to reassure fans.
Yesterday, the couple posted a selfie of Lane with Meyers writing: “Mara and I are thankful for your support and kindness during this time.
“I apologize for having a minor relapse and hope that people don't think too badly of me,” he wrote.
The post continued: “I am on the mend and thank well wishers and sorry for my disheveled [sic] appearance as I was on my way home from a friends and had not changed I feel I made a mistake and feel quite embarrassed but this was just a blip in my recovery otherwise I'm living a healthy life.”
Meyers, perhaps best known for his role on The Tudors having shot to fame in 2002 in Bend It Like Beckham alongside Keira Knightley, has reportedly battled alcohol addiction for the last decade.
His representative Meredith O’Sullivan confirmed in 2007 he had entered a treatment programme, with subsequent unconfirmed reports of the actor checking himself in to further rehabilitation programmes.
