Justin Timberlake under investigation after posting voting booth selfie

Justin Timberlake is currently under investigation by authorities after posting a voting booth selfie, a spokesperson with the Shelby County District Attorney's Office tells The Independent.

In an effort to encourage his 37 million Instagram followers to vote on Monday, the 35-year-old pop star may have violated a newly enacted law in his home state of Tennessee.

“Hey! You! Yeah, YOU! I just flew from LA to Memphis to #rockthevote !!! No excuses, my good people,” Timberlake wrote, in the now-deleted Instagram post.

“There could be early voting in your town too. If not, November 8th! Choose to have a voice! If you don't, then we can't HEAR YOU! Get out and VOTE! #excerciseyourrighttovote.”

Unfortunately for Timberlake, Governor Bill Haslam signed a bill into law last year banning photos and videos.

“The Shelby County District Attorney’s Office was made aware of a possible violation of election law,” the spokesperson said on Tuesday afternoon. “The DA’s office is currently reviewing these allegations.”

Violating election law is listed as a class C misdemeanor and is punishable by up to 30 days in jail, $50 in fines or both, the spokesperson explained.

One official from the polling location told TMZ that Timberlake should be praised for encouraging his fans, not prosecuted.
