Michael Schumacher’s manager hopes F1 champion 'will one day be back with us'

Michael Schumacher’s manager has said she hopes he will “one day be back with us” after he suffered major head injuries in a skiing accident.

Schumacher continues to receive specialist treatment at his home in Switzerland, where he has been treated by a team of 15 since 2014.

His manager Sabine Kehm has said little about the FI ace’s progress since his accident and refused to comment on claims made by Luca di Montezemolo, his former boss at Ferrari, earlier in February that his health is “not good”.

Speaking at the opening of an exhibition celebrating the seven-time world champion’s career in Germany, she said: “He is the most successful driver in history and sometimes, on days like this, it is good to be reminded of it.

“Of course, Michael is not here and of course we miss him. We know what has happened and cannot change it.

“We must accept it and hope with everything we have that with continued support and patience he will one day be back with us. Racing was his life and no one would have liked to have been here more than him.”

Ms Kehm told The Independent her comments were part of speech prepared before Mr Montezemolo spoke to the press. “The comments made on the opening of the exhibition came because of the opening of the exhibition," she said. "They of course did not come after Mr Montezemolo’s comments. There is a lot of planning involved in an opening of the exhibition, and the date was equally planned since a long time.”
