The actor, Reid Ewing has publicly come out as gay in a particularly understated manner on Twitter.

Ewing, 27, who is best known for his role in the sitcom Modern Family, answered a fan’s question on Twitter after referring to a man as “hot”.

When the fan asked if he just “outed” himself, Ewing replied: “I was never in.”

He later took to the social media site to express his surprise that followers appeared to be more interested in his sexuality than an article he recently wrote detailing his struggles with Body Dysmorphic Disorder.

The condition led Ewing to undergo a series of cosmetic surgery procedures.

Ewing described how he initially “wanted to look like Brad Pitt” however each procedure led to “a new problem that I would have to fix with another procedure”.

He culminated the article advising: “Before seeking to change your face, you should question whether it is your mind that needs fixing.”

Ewing currently plays Dylan the on-off love interest of Hayley Dunphy, played by Sarah Hyland in the award-winning ABC series.
