Sir Cliff Richard plays children's event as police investigate abuse claims

Sir Cliff Richard played at a charity event for disabled children in Barbados on Saturday night as police continue to investigate abuse claims.

It has emerged that he performed in front of fans on the Caribbean Island in aid of severely brain damaged children at St. Michael’s parish.

Following the concert, he stood and posed happily with fans, belying that two new alleged victims have come forward recently since the singer’s Berkshire home was raided by detectives last August.

They were investigating a historic allegation of sexual assault on a teenage boy under 16 in 1985.

Sir Cliff has spoken out, saying: “I have never, in my life, assaulted anyone.”

Following the house raid in August, he put out a statement that read: “I have no idea where these absurd and untrue allegations come from.

“Beyond stating that the allegations are completely false, it would not be appropriate for me to say anything further until the investigation has concluded, which I hope will be very soon.”

The police investigation began last year when a man, now in his Forties, came forward to claim that he was assaulted by Sir Cliff at a rally in Sheffield held by American Evangelical preacher Billy Graham.

Police have been criticised for the way that the case against the singer has been handled.

The raid was recorded live by a BBC helicopter that circled over officers as they searched the house after a reporter contacted the force claiming they had information about the investigation.

Since then, two more people have to come forward and South Yorkshire Police has set up a dedicated team of officers, under the name of Operation Kaddie, to investigate allegations that three boys were molested.

Sir Cliff added that he hopes “the truth will prevail.”
