TV presenter Chris Tarrant has been arrested after a woman claimed she was assaulted during a domestic incident at his home.

Tarrant, host of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? and Colour of Money, was arrested at his home in Esher, Surrey.

The 62-year-old was questioned by officers at Staines police station, Middlesex but was later released without charge.

A Surrey Police spokesman said: "Police officers attended an address in Esher at 12.58am on Thursday March 5 following reports of a domestic dispute.

"A man in his sixties was arrested on suspicion of assault and taken to Staines Police Station.

"He was later released without any further action being taken."

It is believed the alleged victim was not Tarrant's former wife, Ingrid, 56.

Their 15-year-marriage came to an end when Mrs Tarrant hired private detectives to investigate her husband over suspicions he was being unfaithful.

The broadcaster was eventually caught with primary school deputy head Fiona McKechnie, 50. The divorce settlement saw his former wife awarded almost half of a £25 million fortune.

Since then, the star has been linked to a string of women including his legal assistant, 46-year-old Jane Bird

Today a spokesman for the TV star confirmed the arrest but said: "We have no further comment other than to say that Mr Tarrant was released without charge."

Two years ago Tarrant was cautioned by police following allegations that he assaulted a fellow diner in a curry restaurant in Nottingham.

At the time, a fellow diner claimed the star threw cutlery at him and cut his arm.
