Nile Rodgers went busking on London's South Bank and earned enough for 'a nice breakfast'

Nile Rodgers treated commuters to a solo set when he busked on the streets of London

Nile Rodgers may have performed in front of thousands in London’s Hyde Park this week, but he surprised fans by performing a far more intimate gig the next day – as a busker on the city’s streets.

Rodgers popped up on the South Bank wearing a scarf and a hat on Monday morning, armed with nothing but a microphone, his guitar and an open guitar case on the floor.

The Chic co-founder, who revealed he started his career as a busker, treated passers-by to a number of hits, from Sister Sledge’s ‘We Are Family’ to Diana Ross’ ‘I’m coming out’, but said he wasn’t recognised properly until he started playing some of his own chart-toppers. He did pull out Madonna’s ‘Like A Virgin’ however, much to the delight of the crowd.

Rodgers tweeted: “I made a respectable £12.30 in 20 minutes busking today. In the old days we’d call that ‘a good take’,” or, enough to buy “a nice breakfast,” which he said to one of his followers.
