'Papa' John Creach, musician, died Los Angeles 22 February, aged 76. Played the electric violin with the group Jefferson Starship, successor to Jefferson Airplane, from 1970 to 1972 and then played with former Airplane members in the group Hot Tuna. Awarded the Blues Foundation's WC Handy Award in 1993.

Audrey Strange, musician and artist, died 19 February, aged 81. As Director of Music and Art at the Royal Over-Seas League, 1962-82, she ran their music and arts festivals, which brought public recognition to many British and Commonwealth artists and musicians, including Jacqueline du Pre, John Lill and Barry Douglas.
