Francis Bell, actor, died Herne Bay, New Zealand 4 May, aged 50. Played a leading role as the plumber Max Ramsay in the Australian television soap opera Neighbours in the late 1980s.

Marcel Bernard, tennis player, died Paris 29 April, aged 79. Won the French Open tennis title at Roland Garros, in Paris, in 1946, defeating the Czech player Jaroslav Drobny. In the same year he won the men's doubles titles, partnered by Yvon Petra.

Professor Joseph Yoffey, anatomist, died Jerusalem 16 March, aged 91. Pioneer in research on lymphocytes and bone marrow. Professor of Anatomy at Bristol University 1942- 67. Subsequently a visiting professor at the Hebrew University of

Jerusalem.
