Maj-Gen George Payne, soldier, died 10 September, aged 81. Director of the Army's Ordnance Services 1964-68. Implemented restructuring of army logistics. Appeals Director for National Council for Social Services 1968- 78.

The Right Rev Cyril Tucker, priest, died aged 80. Anglican Bishop in Argentina 1963-75 and Bishop of the Falkland Islands 1963-76. In Buenos Aires, he introduced Spanish-speaking services; previously all had been conducted in English.
